Luck to Boot is a speedy, multiple stakes-placed mare who won $109,830 and equaled the track record in one of her races. Her second and third dams were Stakes Winners and Stakes producers. She is the dam of 8 foals of racing age, including a 2-year-old of 2007. Seven of her foals have raced; all are winners and two are Stakes Winners.
One of Luck to Boot's Stakes Winners is Smokieisabandit, by Smoke Glacken. (He is a full brother to this colt!) Smokieisabandit won 14 races from 2 to 6 years old and earned $304,369.
This colt is a Registered New York Bred. New York Breds can run in maiden and allowance races that allow only New York Breds to compete. Most New York Breds are sired by New York stallions who are not as good as Kentucky sires, such as Smoke Glacken. As a result, New York Bred races are easier to win. The competition is not as tough, and the races are usually won with slower times than unrestricted races. Once a New York Bred has won all of the restricted allowance races, he is eligible to run in the unrestricted allowance races which enables him to earn significantly more money. There are also numerous Stakes Races that are restricted to New York Breds, which further increases this colt's opportunities to increase his earnings. The fact that he is a full brother to an accomplished Stakes Winner further increases his chance for success.
On April 19th, 2009, Monte Carlo won a $41,000 maiden special weight in New York as the crowd favorite.
On May 16, Monte Carlo won his second consecutive race in New York, taking a $43,000 allowance race by 1 1/4 lengths. The 3-year-old defeated older horses going seven furlongs, and is now 2-for-2 for his connections.
