This is a stunning two-year-old filly by Speightstown out of Clearly A Queen, by Lucky North. She has excellent conformation and an A+ biomechanical rating, which has produced a very high percentage of stakes winners.
Speightstown is the Eclipse Award winning Champion Sprinter whose first crop of two-year-olds will race this year. He is the leading sire by number of juveniles sold, and one of his two-year-olds sold for $1,700,000, which is the highest price paid for a two-year-old by a first crop stallion in 2008
and the second highest price paid for a two-year-old by any stallion this year. In 2007, his yearlings sold for $700,000, $450,000, $435,000, $435,000, $425,000, $400,000, etc. At the 2006 November Sale, he had the highest-priced first crop weanling at $450,000.
Trainer Todd Pletcher said that Speightstown was "The Best Sprinter in America!" He earned $1,258,256 in purse income and won the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint. He equaled the 32-year-old track record for 6 furlongs at Saratoga in 1:08 flat while winning the Grade 2 A. G. Vanderbilt Handicap. He also won the Grade 2 True North Handicap at Belmont in 1:08 flat, and won the 7-furlong Grade 2 Churchill Downs Handicap in 1:21 1/5.
Speightstown is so exceptional looking and has such a good pedigree that he sold for $2,000,000 as a yearling. He is by the acknowledged sire of sires Gone West, who has numerous top stallions including Mr. Greeley, Elusive Quality, Proud Citizen, Grand Slam, etc. Gone West's progeny has earned over $70,000,000 in purse income, and he has produced a number of Breeders' Cup winners.
Speightstown's dam was the Champion 2-year-old filly in Canada. His second, third and fourth dams were all stakes winners or stakes producers. Hail Mary¹s dam, Clearly A Queen, is a multiple Graded Stakes Winner who earned $504,532. She won the Grade 3 Violet Handicap, the Grade 3 Eatontown Handicap, the Grade 3 Matchmaker Handicap, the Columbiana Handicap and the Miss Gibson County Stakes. She was 2nd in the Grade 2 Black Helen Handicap and placed in five other stakes. Clearly A Queen¹s second dam is a stakes winner and a multiple stakes producer.
Hail Mary was foaled in Kentucky and is eligible for the Breeders¹ Cup.
