$255,000 Malibu Moon colt tops strong Denali Fasig-Tipton October results

Denali Stud had a total of five horses bring six figures at the Oct. 20-22 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings sale, led by a $255,000 colt by leading sire Malibu Moon. Denali sold a total of 16 lots during the three day auction for a total of $1,134,500, third-best gross total. Additionally, their average price of $70,906 was fourth-best among all consignors with more than one lot sold.

The Malibu Moon colt, hip No. 604, was bought by Ed and Susie Orr. Bred in Kentucky, the chestnut juvenile is out of Kettleoneup, winner of the Falls City H. (G2) and Sixty Sails H. (G3). 

Hip No. 28, by Distorted Humor, brought a winning bid of $230,000 from Ciaran Dunne. The gray/roan comes from a regal family – she is the second foal out of Wild Poppy, who is a daughter of the champion 2-year-old filly Flanders and a half-sister to another champion in Surfside.

Red-hot freshman sire Super Saver is the sire of hip No. 933, a colt that went for $160,000 to Grand Oaks. The colt is out of the Grade 1-placed Quiet Kim, who is the dam of millionaire and multiple graded stakes winner Fiftyshadesofhay.

Castleton Lyons went to $152,000 to secure hip No. 384, a dark bay son of first-year sire Gio Ponti. The colt is out of the Bertrando mare Encouragement, who is a half-sister to Common Hope, the dam of leading 3-year-old Shared Belief, who looks to cap an undefeated season in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).
