Denali posts strong results for Keeneland September sale
Buoyed by a $1.3 million War Front colt, Denali Stud finished the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling sale with gross receipts of $10,097,000, the fifth-highest total for all consignors. Denali’s average for the 87 head sold was $116,057, well above the overall consignor average of $99,312.
The War Front juvenile, which sold during session two of the Sept. 8-21 auction, was the second-highest priced offering of that day and was bought by Michael V. Magnier on behalf of Coolmore.
Denali’s successes continued throughout the sale, including the day’s co-sales-topper during session 11, when hip No. 3184, a colt from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Haynesfield brought a winning bid of $160,000 from John Brocklebank on behalf of Hathaway Thoroughbreds. The colt comes from the same family as two-time champion and millionaire Essence Hit Man.
In addition to the Coolmore group, Denali’s buyers’ list included the likes of Frank Brothers, Mark Casse, Centennial Farms, Conquest Stables, Ben McElroy, Nick de Meric, Todd Pletcher, Ken and Sarah Ramsey , Solis and Litt, and Team Valor.
