Denali-Raised Sales Grad MELATONIN named ‘Horse of Meet’ at Santa Anita

Friday, July 15, 2016

Denali Stud’s most recent Grade 1 winner, MELATONIN, was recently named Santa Anita’s ‘Horse of the Meet’. His first Grade 1 win came March 12 in the Grade 1 Santa Anita H. He followed that effort with a runner up finish in the G2 Oaklawn H. at Oaklawn Park. Returning to Santa Anita toward the end of the meet, the son of Kodiak Kowboy notched his second Grade 1 win in the Gold Cup S. by 1 1/2 lengths, defeating notable runners such as Hoppertunity, Bal a Bali (BRZ) and Hard Aces, who won this race last year.

Foaled and raised at Denali Stud, the now 5 year old gelding is trained by David Hofmans for owner Susan Osborne’s Tarabilla Farms. Offered as a yearling in the Keeneland September sale in 2012, the dark bay was hammered down at a bargain $20,000. His ultimate goal, according to connections, will be the Breeders Cup Classic at Santa Anita this November. We can’t wait to cheer him on.
