Sales Graduate Frosty Friday Tabbed ‘TDN Rising Star’
Frosty Friday, a well bred filly by Eskendereya out of Frosty Promise, broke her maiden on March 1st at Santa Anita going a mile on the turf. She was bred by Bridlewood Farm and purchased from the Denali consignment at Fasig Tipton October for $245k and is owned by Gary Barber.
From the TDN…
Making her sophomore debut, her first start in nearly 10 months and transitioning to the turf and two turns, Gary Barber’s Frosty Friday could not have been any more impressive in winning her maiden in hand by 3 1/4 lengths to become the first TDN Rising Star from her Grade I-winning sire’s first crop at the races. Despite a pedigree tilted towards turf, especially on her dam’s side, the $245,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling acquisition debuted on the Churchill main track, working home third in a modestly rated affair last May 15. Missing since, the attractive bay was bet in half from her morning line of 6-1 and stamped herself one to watch in turf routes over the coming months. Frosty Friday, a half-sister to fellow Storm Cat-line half-sibling MGSW Icy Atlantic (Stormy Atlantic, MGSW, $993,700)–frequently used as a rabbit for English Channel–and GSW Wild Promises (Wild Event, GSW, $699,610), settled kindly for Corey Nakatani in fifth position early on and was able to secure a tidy ground-saving trip, though the pace was ordinary at best ahead of her. With her rider sitting against her on the turn, Frosty Friday quickened impressively leaving the quarter pole, shot through an opening at the fence and was not fully extended to best Socialized (City Zip) by a comfortable margin. Frosty Promise has a 2-year-old of this year by Stormy Atlantic named Port Authority and is the dam of a yearling filly by Half Ours. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $37,190.
