By: Alexis Kolasa
Denali Sales Grad RIDE A COMET, a 3-year old colt by Candy Ride out of Appealing Zophie, and half-brother to Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit, won the 2018 Charlie Barley Stakes at Woodbine on June 30th, the colt’s fourth career win for his owners John Oxley and breeder My Meadowview. It was Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse’s sixth Charlie Barley win as the 2-1 favorite took the lead at the top of the turn, ultimately winning by 2 ¾ lengths with jockey Patrick Husbands aboard. Ride a Comet beat El Tormenta after finding a small window from the back of the pack with a furlong to go. He now boasts earnings of $131,856 after his first stakes win. Foaled and raised at Denali Stud, Ride a Comet was a $45K RNA as a yearling at the 2016 Keeneland September Sale.
