G1 winner My Wandy’s Girl brings $700K at KEENOV

My Wandy’s Girl, a multiple Grade 1 winner and Champion 3-Year-Old, topped the Denali consignment at the Keeneland November sale, which ran Nov. 4-14. Denali sold a total of 72 lots during the auction, for a gross total of $4,706,000 and average of $65,357. The winning bidder for My Wandy’s Girl was Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.

Campaigned by owner Guillermo Berrios and trainer Michael Hushion, My Wandy’s Girl began her career in Puerto Rico where she capped off a five-win 2-year-old season with a decisive 3 ½-length win in the Grade 1 Clasico Accion de Gracias S. At three, the well-built chestnut filly only got better, winning an amazing eight in a row, including 3 ½-length win in the Grade 1 Clasico Dia de los Padres S. 

The last of My Wandy Girl’s eight straight victories came in the form of a 12 ¼-length romp in the Grade 2 Clasico Roberto Clemente S., earning her honors as Puerto Rico’s runaway Champion 3-Year-Old Filly. My Wandy’s Girl was sent to America towards the end of her 3-year-old season, and she quickly made an impact with a victory in the Pentelis S. at Aqueduct in her first start for Michael Hushion.

My Wandy’s Girl stepped into Grade 1 company in the Gazelle S. where she was a valiant third stretching out to 1 1/8 miles and contesting the early pace. She began her 4-year-old season with close runner-up performances in the Barbara Fritchie H. (G2) at Laurel and Ruffian H. (G2) at Aqueduct. This year, My Wandy’s Girl returned to Laurel and turned the tables with a powerhouse win in the $300,000 Barbara Fritchie H. (G2), one of the best sprint races in the country for fillies and mares the first half of the season.

Following another on-the-board finish in the Ruffian H. (G2), My Wandy’s Girl ran a stellar race at Saratoga against many of the fastest fillies and mares in training, falling just a half-length short when second in the Honorable Miss H. in July. She earned a 99 Beyer for the performance, showing her tremendous speed and class against the best. 

By Kentucky Derby-producing sire Flower Alley, My Wandy’s Girl currently holds earnings of $638,710. She hails out of an Unbridled’s Song mare, and her next three broodmares sires are giants: Easy Goer, Storm Bird, and Secretariat. Craig & Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud will represent this unique mare at Keeneland November, where she’ll be available for inspection at Barn 12.

In addition to My Wandy’s Girl, Denali sold four mares that brought a winning bid of at least a quarter-million dollars. Hip No. 277, the multiple graded stakes-placed Connie and Michael, went for $375,000 to Avocet Bloodstock. She was sold in foal to 2010 champion 2-year-old Uncle Mo.

Twin Creeks Farm went to $300,000 for Joyful, a daughter of Distorted Humor who has produced last year’s Iroquois S. (G3) winner Cleburne. She is in foal to Giant’s Causeway.

Hip No. 411, the regally-bred Sluice, sold for $285,000 to SF Bloodstock. A daughter of Seeking the Gold out of Lakeway, Sluice is the dam of millionaire and multiple graded stakes winner Mushka. She was bred this year to Animal Kingdom.

Twice Told Tale, a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Dance to Bristol, sold for $260,000 to Claiborne Farm Bloodstock. Mated this year to 2013 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb, Twice Told Tale comes from the classic bloodlines of General Assembly and Chief Honcho.
