Her Emmynency strides clear in $100K Surfer Girl S.
Her Emmynency, a $115,000 Denali sales grad from the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling sale, got her first stakes win in the $100,000 Surfer Girl S. Sunday at Santa Anita, setting up the 2-year-old filly for a start in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) on Oct. 31, also at Santa Anita.
With Devil’s Beauty setting fast fractions of :46.22 for the half and 1:10.86 for six furlongs, Her Emmynency sat off the pace, then found space along the rail at the top of the stretch, bursting through to win by three lengths. The final time for the mile on the firm turf was 1:34.77.
Trainer Michael Stidham, who sent the daughter of Successful Appeal out to a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante last month, had an even bigger race in mind for the Ike and Dawn Thrash colorbearer.
“That’s our plan (to run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf),” said Stidham. “She got a little aggressive around the first turn, but then Joe (Talamo) got her to settle in behind horses and that was nice to see, because certainly you don’t want one dimension on the grass. You want a horse that’ll settle and have the turn of foot that she has. That was the best part of today for me.”
Her Emmynency has won two of her three starts and won $165,000. The filly was bred in Kentucky by S. D. Brilie, L.P. She is a daughter of Chic Dancer, a winner of three stakes, including the Modesty H. (G3). Her Emmynency’s third dam is Ubetshedid, dam of Hall of Famer and six-time Grade 1 winner Best Pal.
